October 8, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
In this workshop you will discover and learn more about the United States census using Social Explorer. We will cover the basics of making maps in Social Explorer, including the numerous built-in features that it offers – from the storytelling tool to comparing maps to examining change over time. In addition, you will gain a better understanding of the United States Census and how you can use it in a broad range of research and academic areas. You will leave this workshop knowing how to use a powerful new tool that will help you better understand a place or neighborhood as well as access, understand, and use a range of demographic data applicable to many different research areas. This workshop is intended for a beginner audience and no map-making skills are needed. Meet in the HumTech (Center for Digital Humanities) Learning LabRolfe Hall 2118.
