For Department Websites

Websites for the Humanities Division are currently being migrated to the updated infrastructure and template. If you have not already begun production and would like to begin the transition process, please contact webprojects@ssc.ucla.edu

For Institute & Center Websites

Upon completion of Humanities department sites, the Webteam’s next priority will be websites for Humanities’ Institutes and Centers. If you would like to begin proactively to transition your site, please contact webprojects@ssc.ucla.edu

For Research Websites

If you would like to request a website for a faculty-led project, please contact webprojects@ssc.ucla.edu

Eligibility
  • Current faculty with an appointment in the Humanities division
  • Research group and centers funded by a department or IDP in the Humanities division
Requirements
  • Websites must not be used for personal use (e.g. e-commerce)
  • Websites must not make any modifications to the UCLA Stratcomm header and footer
  • Websites must not store any sensitive data (e.g. student ID numbers, social security numbers, credit card information, etc.)
Accounts and Renewals

The WebTeam will manage creation and deletion of user accounts for the website. Users are responsible for maintaining their personal accounts and are fully responsible for any activity that occurs under the account.

After initial provisioning, website owners will need to renew their websites yearly basis. Unrenewed websites will be archived and moved onto a static HTML server.

Features and Functionality

Websites are provided on an “as-is” basis. Features and functionality will be curated by the WebTeam. No additional plugins or themes will be installed. The WebTeam will not provide customization help outside of the tools already provided in the template.

Content and Backups

Website database backups will be made daily and uploaded file backups will be made every other week. We will perform best-effort data recovery in the event of lost content.

Usage and Utilization Limits

If a website consumes more than 10% of the bandwidth/processing resources available on the shared server, we reserve the right to convert the website to static HTML. Websites will be limited to 2GB of file storage space.

Security and Accessibility

The WebTeam will prioritize security and accessibility for websites. Themes and plugins are centrally vetted and controlled to maintain a proactive security posture. External contractors will be required to pass security and accessibility reviews.

For end-users who want bespoke sites or utilize contractors will be required to use an Amazon Web Services instance. Pricing varies from $5-50 a month for a Lightsail Instance depending on visits: https://aws.amazon.com/lightsail/pricing/

For Faculty/Scholar Websites

If faculty would like to request a template WordPress site for their scholarly presence or professionalization, please contact webprojects@ssc.ucla.edu

These sites are only available to current, active UCLA faculty. Lecturers, post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduate students see below.
