Project for Tachistoscope Book Talk

Jessica Pressman (SDSU, Ph.D. UCLA), Mark Marino (USC) and Jeremy Douglass (UCSB) will discuss their jointly authored Reading Project (University of Iowa, 2015), a book of digital humanities literary criticism that reads William Poundstone’s work of electronic literature, “Project for Tachistoscope [Bottomless Pit],” using media archaeology, visual analytics, linguistic stylometry, and Critical Code Studies.
Joining them will the artist himself, William Poundstone, the two-time Pulitzer-nominated author of fifteen non-fiction books including Prisoner’s Dilemma: John von Neumann, Game Theory, and the Puzzle of the Bomb (1992) and Fortune’s Formula: The Untold Story of the Scientific Betting System That Beat the Casinos and Wall Street (2005). His art blog “Los Angeles County Museum of Fire” (http://blogs.artinfo.com/lacmonfire/) is a must-read for LA art enthusiasts. Poundstone is the creator of several important works of digital literature including New Digital Emblems.
