HumConnect Charter
Project Description
HumConnect is an initiative dedicated to enhancing inclusion, strengthening team connections, and fostering collaboration through engaging events. These events offer opportunities for open communication, cross-training, and collaborative projects, encouraging teamwork and skill-sharing across different roles.
HumConnect aims to create a more connected and dynamic workplace through diverse and interactive team-building activities.
Impact
Transforming the department into a more inclusive, connected, collaborative, and innovative environment through dynamic and engaging team-building events.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION & FINAL DELIVERABLE FOR THE OVERALL PROJECT
HumConnect will enhance team connections, inclusion, and collaboration through a series of interactive and engaging events. The final deliverable will include a comprehensive, adaptable program plan outlining event structures, schedules, activity guides, and resource materials that can be scaled as needed.
A key component will be the development of a planning committee with cross-functional representation, responsible for designing, facilitating, and tailoring the program annually to meet the department’s evolving needs.
This committee will also collaborate with other teams within the department when planning larger events. The program will remain flexible, allowing adjustments based on departmental priorities, feedback, and emerging team dynamics.
Additionally, we will produce communication tools and reports that summarize event outcomes, including participation metrics and feedback, to support continuous improvement of the initiative.
PURPOSE/ PROBLEM STATEMENT
The HumConnect initiative aims to enhance collaboration, communication, and teamwork across the department by breaking down operational silos and promoting cross-functional interaction.
Because teams work in specialized roles, opportunities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration are often limited, which can hinder innovation and employee morale. HumConnect will create structured opportunities for inclusion, open communication, skill-sharing, and teamwork, fostering a more connected and cohesive workplace.
Addressing these internal challenges will boost employee engagement, productivity, and overall departmental success. While external factors like academic, political, and economic shifts underscore the need for a resilient workforce, HumConnect’s primary goal is to unlock the department’s full potential by building stronger, more inclusive, and more collaborative teams. The initiative will be designed to be flexible and responsive to the department’s evolving needs, ensuring its ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
VISION/ OUTCOME STATEMENT
HumConnect envisions a more inclusive, collaborative, engaged, and dynamic workplace where operational silos are broken down and a culture of open communication, skill-sharing, and teamwork thrives.
The expected outcomes include enhanced cross-functional collaboration, increased employee engagement and morale, improved productivity, greater knowledge-sharing, and stronger team cohesion.
By fostering these improvements, HumConnect will position the department as a leader in collaboration and create a scalable model for division-wide success, transforming the workplace into an inclusive, cohesive, and innovative environment.
SCOPE STATEMENT
HumConnect will focus on designing and implementing a structured program to enhance collaboration, communication, and teamwork within the department. In-scope actions include developing a comprehensive program plan, creating a cross-functional planning committee, facilitating team-building events, collecting data to assess outcomes, and developing a scalable model for future use.
Out-of-scope actions include training other departments, addressing individual team performance issues, and developing long-term employee training programs, as these are already managed by other organizational functions. This ensures the project stays focused on fostering department-wide collaboration while recognizing that comprehensive professional development needs outside this scope can be addressed through existing programs.
