Basic Hosting
For hosting websites where the site owner needs little to no support.

Web Hosting ≠ Web Development
A website that has been developed needs a place to be stored so that it can be accessible online. That’s where web hosting comes in. Web hosting is the service on which your online content lives. If you are interested in web development, visit our Web Support page.
Why Host at HumTech?
When you host your project at HumTech you are protected by UC agreements for security and privacy of your data and intellectual property, and you have access to HumTech’s Digital Services team for help with things like backups, transfers to other locations, and consultation on optimal project design/architecture. In addition, we have recently moved to cloud-based hosting for the majority of our assets, and are now able to closely monitor costs and use the latest cost-optimization tools to minimize costs while maintaining UCLA protections. While you may find a lower-cost host elsewhere, you will not have access to any such protections or support.
Payment Options
Payment schedules and options vary depending the type of hosting.
- For Basic and Advanced Hosting, site owners are billed at the end of every fiscal year and can pay via a transfer of funds (TOF).
- For Premium Hosting, site owners have the option of either being billed by HumTech annually at the end of every fiscal year or by providing a FAU that can be billed directly every month by UCLA IT Services.
Funding Assistance
Funding assistance can be requested from the dean’s office through the usual application process for Dean’s discretionary funds. For any hosting requests that the Dean agrees to fund, HumTech will work with the dean’s office to retrieve the funds at the end of every fiscal year.
Keep in mind that ongoing costs for your project or site may need grant or other support.
Physical Servers
While HumTech prefers cloud hosting, some projects require hosting on physical servers our data center. For these servers, we charge based on the technical resources the application takes up (memory, storage, etc.) by utilizing the same calculator that UCLA IT Services uses.
To cover our time performing the extra system administration support tasks required to maintain a physical server (patching, monitoring, upgrades, etc), we charge a flat fee of $1,758.96/year.
Support
Free basic support is included in all hosting options. Anything beyond basic support, such as web development or application configuration, is not covered and will be charged at our staff’s hourly rate. Alternatively, you can purchase 12 months of support for your project starting at $2200 a year.
